TER — Moscow Metro Station ‘Terekhovo’
5 780 m2
The Terekhovo station of the Third Interchange Contour of Moscow’s Metro was designed in 2015-2016 following the open international competition KB Strelka organized on ZAO Mosinzhproyekt’s commission.
Its image brings to mind rural life, above all a field with haystacks towering here and there, the sky tinged with gold, pink and purple by the setting sun, a silvery scatter of stars about to appear on it, and the river surface reflecting this planetary splendour.
The entrance pavilion has a parabolic arch cover of polished concrete and glass bricks, which looks like a formal reference to the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga, designed by Boris Barkhin. At the same time the pavilion silhouette is reminiscent of a haystack conveying the primordial ambiguity of man who, on the one side, dreams of peace and quiet and, on the other, strives to probe the unknown.
Grey granite, metal and concrete have been suggested for interior finish. However, they will only serve as a background for bright decorative panels in the cashier hall and the platforms zone, where some surfaces are faced with square oxidized metal plates forming abstract compositions of shimmering sapphire, turquoise, coral, sandy and other colours of the twilight sky.
