MDM — Moscow Palace of Youth
48 760 m2
The building of the Moscow Youth Palace (MDM) built in the late 1980s stands on a trapezium-shaped site bordered by the Komsomolsky Avenue, Malaya Trubetskaya Street, Kholzunov Lane and the grounds of the children’s park known as “The Trubetskoys’ Estate in Khamovniki”. The entrance to the Frunzenskaya Metro station is right under the MDM, with surface public transport stops and car and bike parking lots situated nearby.
The proposed development concept envisages partial glazing of the pylonade around the building, construction of a superstructure faced with perforated metal sheets and add-on public spaces, interior reconstruction and improvements to the adjacent grounds.
The range of the MDM’s functional capabilities will be considerably extended. Walkways and modern street furniture will appear on the grounds, actually turning this fragment of an urban block into an esplanade, a piece of quality urban public space of a new generation.
